Biography of Shihan Dwight Grover

Dwight Grover was born in 1957 and spent his childhood traveling around the world as part of a military family. He spent his adolescence in Argentina and Chile. Upon returning to the United States, he studied psychology at Old Dominion University in Norfolk Virginia.

Dwight Shihan began his martial arts studies in Shorinji Ryu under Hiroshi Hanada Shihan while attending ODU. He began his study of Shito Ryu in 1992 and started training under Del Saito Soke in 2000. In 2005, Dwight Shihan became one of the first members of what was to become the TKFI Shihan Kai. He founded Ichibankarate in 2009 and achieved his Rokudan in Saito-ha Shito Ryu in 2011.

Dwight Shihan is currently the Chief Instructor at Ichibankarate and the Chief Instructor for Saito-ha Shito-Ryu Karate-do in the State of Virginia. He also teaches as part of the physical fitness program at a school in Herndon Virginia designed to help children with social and communication challenges reach their full potential.

In addition to his studies of traditional Karate-Do, Dwight Shihan also holds many karate championship titles, including World Championships in 2005 and 2009. Dwight Shihan is the Chief Referee for the TKFI and is nationally rated as a Referee in both the Amateur Athletic Union and the USA National Karate Federation. He also has international experience refereeing with CONDEKA (Central American Karate Federation).
